An icon reborn: The new LEGO Technic McLaren Senna GTR is unboxed

Actions

Today, an exciting new addition sped onto the track and supercar scene. Extreme to the core like its iconic real-life counterpart, the new LEGO® Technic™ McLaren Senna GTR provides the ultimate thrill for sportscar lovers and motorsport fans alike looking for their next building challenge.

Combining the McLaren’s unrivalled power and sophistication with the LEGO Group’s design precision, the 830-piece model of this track focused supercar icon makes no compromises when it comes to engineering or style. The model is the first McLaren supercar to be recreated in LEGO Technic form and is designed to provide the ultimate building thrill for those ages 10 and above.

The McLaren Senna GTR is a car unlike any other and this awesome replica is packed with authentic features and design details that make it equally impressive.

From the V8 engine with moving pistons, beautiful aerodynamic curves, opening dihedral doors and a one-of-a-kind blue paint job, this 32cm (12 inch) long model is sure to raise eyebrows and get hearts pumping whether being taken out for a spin or put admiringly on display once built.

The LEGO Technic McLaren Senna GTR will be available globally from January 1 2021 from LEGO.com, LEGO stores and other retailers globally, and McLaren’s worldwide retailer network, with an RRP of 49,99€/49,99$/£44.99 GBP.

“Recreating a car that is so extreme to the core as the McLaren Senna GTR with LEGO Technic gave us an incredibly interesting challenge” says Uwe Wabra, Senior Designer, LEGO Technic. “This track car is not like any road car I’ve worked on before. It’s got some unique details, like its silhouettes and the awesome rear spoiler, which differentiates the building experience from others. Just like the incredible engineers at McLaren do when designing their supercars, we really pushed things to the max so the resulting model perfectly honours the art form that is the McLaren Senna GTR.”

Robert Melville, Design Director McLaren Automotive, comments: “The team responsible for the design of the McLaren Senna GTR worked incredibly closely with their design counterparts at the LEGO Group to capture the extreme looks, excitement and essence of such an incredible supercar for LEGO Technic builders. Just like the real thing, the LEGO model is packed full of incredible details from the rear spoiler to the moving pistons in the V8 engine to the dihedral doors meaning that we’re as proud of the model as we are of the real car.”

The LEGO Technic McLaren Senna GTR is the latest model to be released as part of the long-standing partnership with McLaren Automotive that started in 2015, following McLaren Senna LEGO® Speed Champions set launched in 2019. LEGO builders of all ages have so far been able to create such iconic supercars as the McLaren P1™, the 720S in 2017 and the McLaren Senna in 2019.The two brands are united by a drive for engineering excellence, pioneering design that makes models like this so fun to build individually or as a family.

Behold the majesty of the Roman Colosseum, now in your living room

Actions

This Black Friday, LEGO® fans can take home a piece of history and re-create Rome’s most iconic landmark, with the awe-inspiring new LEGO Colosseum set. Made up of 9,036 pieces, this is not only the largest LEGO brick set launched to date (taking the title from the LEGO® Star Wars™ Millennium Falcon) it’s also been expertly designed to mimic the incredible architecture of the original Roman amphitheatre, making it a building project to savour and a set to marvel at.

Both LEGO fans and History buffs need to look no further than their living room to experience a taste of Italian history, as this LEGO brick model is a truly authentic LEGO brick recreation of the mighty Colosseum – featuring many true-to-life details to help builders accurately bring this famous building to life. This epic LEGO model features a recreation of the three distinct stories from the Colosseum, with each of these stories adorned with the columns of the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders. These columns have been faithfully recreated in LEGO brick form using a variety of creative building techniques, including decorative volutes that have been created using a recoloured LEGO roller skate element that has been turned upside down to create an authentic look.

Every detail of the set has been meticulously crafted to stay true to the real-life Colosseum – including having 80 ‘ribs’ in the spectator stands (the exact same number as the original) and having three different shades of brick to replicate the different columns and aging of the almost 2,000 year old landmark. The build experience has even been expertly created to match the same process as the original, with the “wooden” LEGO arena being the last build to be placed on the LEGO model, as it has been in the 1990s. As well as being a challenging build, this model is truly a breath-taking focal point for any room. The LEGO Colosseum rests on an oval base, allowing this phenomenal 360-degree display piece to be shown off from any angle. Builders can then choose which side of this magnificent LEGO Brick recreation of one of Rome’s most visited landmarks they display – whether that’s the southern side of the building, which has been destroyed by various earthquakes and natural disasters over the years, or the more complete northern wall. Colosseum features arches, that have been recreated with LEGO brick detailing, allowing a view into the centre of the Colosseum from the outside, just like its real-life counterpart.

The set was designed by Rok Zgalin Kobe who commented:

” One of the biggest challenges and one of the most important things was to convey the Colosseum’s monumentality in the LEGO form. I felt that the LEGO model should display a special architectural feature of the original – the rows of columns flanking the arches in different styles. To achieve that, the model is constructed using an effect of vertical exaggeration. The cross-section is therefore far steeper than on the real structure. Hopefully, people will be inspired to learn more about the original through the experience of building the LEGO model.”

The LEGO Colosseum measures over 10.5” (27cm) high, 20.5” (52cm) wide and 23.5” (59cm) deep making this a spectacular centre piece for any LEGO brick collection.

The set will launch on 27th November, on Black Friday, as part of the LEGO Stores and LEGO.com Black Friday offerings. LEGO VIP members who purchase the exclusive model during the Black Friday Cyber Monday weekend will receive a limited-edition gift with purchase, a Roman Chariot, which can be displayed alongside the Colosseum. Shoppers can sign up to the VIP Program free either in store or online. Included in the Black Friday promotions are a range of other deals including an exclusive Charles Dickens tribute gift with purchases over £150, a Holiday Tree gift with purchases over £40, discounts on selected items, a chance to win 1,000,000 VIP points and exclusive VIP rewards launching throughout the weekend!

LEGO Colosseum will be available directly via LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from 27th November.

Step Up To The Brand-New LEGO® Ideas 123 Sesame Street

Actions

Voted for by LEGO brick lovers all over the world, a wonderfully nostalgic new LEGO Ideas set has been brought to life after being envisioned by an avid builder. The brand-new LEGO® Ideas 123 Sesame Street set is the latest product from the LEGO Ideas collection, which conceptualises and produces the creative wonders imagined and voted for by LEGO brick fans themselves.

Created with all the delightful elements of 123 Sesame Street, the new set is packed with authentic details from the famous New York City neighbourhood. From Bert and Ernie’s apartment, in which Bert famously pleaded with Ernie to remove a banana from his ear so he could hear better, to Big Bird’s nest, where the grown-ups finally met Mr. Snuffleupagus in person - builders will marvel in Sesame Street’s most memorable moments.

As they embark on their immersive build journey of LEGO® Ideas 123 Sesame Street, seasoned LEGO fans and younger builders alike can take a trip down memory lane, passing by Hooper’s Store, Oscar the Grouch’s trash can, and many more quintessential Sesame Street locations, making it the perfect set to enjoy on your own or together as a family. Fans can even bring their favourite characters and show moments to life with the brand new and exclusive buildable minifigures which have been moulded specifically for the set, including characters such as Cookie Monster, Elmo and Big Bird.

The new LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street set is part of the LEGO Ideas collection, which offers fans the opportunity to submit their own brick creations with the chance to have their concept brought to life with the help of LEGO master designers and a share of the profits. Other recent LEGO Ideas sets inspired by LEGO fans, include the LEGO Ideas Grand Piano and the LEGO Ideas Friends Central Perk.

Created by Sesame Street fan and LEGO enthusiast Ivan Guerrero, this set brings together the magic of the iconic New York City street with the mindful and creative building experience of LEGO bricks to create an instant classic.

Speaking about the creative journey, Ivan Guerrero said: “As a long-time fan of the LEGO Group and Sesame Street, it has been a dream come true to be able to merge my two passions into a memorable set for fellow builders to enjoy. LEGO bricks and Sesame Street shaped both my childhood and adult years, and the opportunity to work with the LEGO Ideas team to bring this quintessential New York street to life has been thrilling.”

Federico Begher, VP of Global Marketing at The LEGO Group added: “We were instantly drawn to Ivan’s idea, as we had never created an official LEGO product with Sesame Street before. It was clear from the submission that Ivan is passionate about Sesame Street and he really brought it to life with the wide array of characters and bright, classic colours. For the first time in the history of LEGO Ideas, we also had the opportunity to create brand new minifigures for a set – bringing something new and exciting to our LEGO fans.

Knowing the impact Sesame Street has had on the world for decades, sharing similar values with generations past and present, this felt like an exciting way to blend novelty with nostalgia, and pay homage to the truly iconic 123 Sesame Street through LEGO Ideas.”

“Your imagination and creativity can take you places—and with the help of LEGO Ideas, it’s now transporting fans to Sesame Street where you’re never too old for a playdate,” said Gabriela Arenas, Sesame Workshop’s Vice President of Licensing, North America.

Once built, the 1,367-piece LEGO® 123 Sesame Street is sure to bring excitement and nostalgia into any space, measuring 9” (24cm) high, 13.5” (35cm) wide and 8.2” (21cm) deep.

The new LEGO® Ideas 123 Sesame Street set is the latest example of how the LEGO Group aims to inspire builders of all ages to build, rebuild and get excited by the process of creation.

LEGO® 123 Sesame Street will be available directly via LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from 1st November.
