The LEGO Group has announced the release of its newest build, the LEGO Eiffel Tower set, which is now the tallest LEGO set ever created and the second largest in terms of the number of pieces. With an impressive 10,001 pieces and a height of 149cm / 58 inches / 4.8ft, this set perfectly replicates the iconic Parisian landmark's beauty and unique architecture.

For those interested in history and architecture, this set is a must-have for your collection. The set comes complete with the Eiffel Tower's truss-work, elevators, three observation platforms, landscaping, an office at the top, and a broadcast tower, all in magnificent detail. Additionally, the set features the Tricolore flag at its peak, making it the ultimate statement piece for your home.

Designed to closely replicate the original Eiffel Tower, the LEGO set can be separated into four sections, making it easy to build, move, and play with. The set is perfect for those who enjoy travel and architecture, as it transports you to the heart of Paris and allows you to experience the city's rich history and culture.

Rok Žgalin Kobe, the LEGO Designer, describes the process of designing the set: "We wanted to find the ultimate LEGO expression for the engineering and architectural masterpiece that is the Eiffel Tower. We followed the structural principles of the original tower as closely as the LEGO System would allow."

The set will be available for purchase on LEGO.com from 25th November 2022, at a price of £554.99 / €629.99 / $629.99 / AU$999.99 / CA$799.99. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own this stunning LEGO creation and bring a piece of Paris into your home. For more information and images, visit the set details page.

LEGO Mindstorms to be discontinued

Actions

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-10-28/1666971360-143522-51515-lifestyle-06.jpg]

LEGO has announced that Mindstorms, the famous long-running robotics range, will be discontinued at the end of 2022. The official announcement is as follows:

Since its launch in September 1998, LEGO Mindstorms has been one of the core ‘Build & Code’ experiences in the company’s portfolio, carrying with it significant brand equity and becoming a stand-out experience for the early days of consumer robotics and leading to current Build & Code experiences such as SPIKE Prime, from LEGO Education’s LEGO Learning System.

However, now having a number of priorities in LEGO Education and other Build & Code experiences, we have decided to focus our resources and future plans by redirecting our Mindstorms Robot Inventor team and their expertise into different areas of the business.

This means the physical Mindstorms Robot Inventor product (51515) and its related elements (88016 and 88018) are to exit our portfolio from the end of 2022, whilst digital platforms – such as the LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor App – will remain live until at least the end of 2024.

We still have strong belief in the Build & Code proposition and will continue to support it through platforms such as SPIKE Prime, and we are continuing to hold on to the trademark for the Mindstorms brand and assessing our future plans together with LEGO Education.

We are sure that this has been a difficult decision for LEGO, but at the same time for many it is not entirely surprising.

When the third version of Mindstorms EV3 was released during 2013, it was the most expensive set released that year and one of only five that cost more than $200. As a result, it was met with high expectations and was a big deal, coupled with factors such as the growing number of adult robotics enthusiasts, among others who wanted a "high-end" LEGO set, not least because it was a significant improvement on the previous generation, NXT.

It seems that when the Robot Inventor (51515) was released two years ago, however, it was just one of dozens of great sets vying for attention on the shelves, so regular LEGO users have been rather more selective, which has meant that it has not stood out in the way that EV3 did.

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-10-28/1666971360-574139-51515-lifestyle-07.jpg]

Also, while it was easier to program and build, in many ways it was a step backwards technologically compared to the EV3 (e.g. fewer ports, tethered cables, no LCD on the hub), so it didn't exactly excite the roboticist niche in the same way that previous iterations did, and of course the competition has played a part, where there are many other cheaper and more capable robotic platforms on the market today.

So, with this announcement we have confirmation that the Mindstorms name will die, which is a shame, but the technology platform will continue to exist and will be improved over time, albeit aimed exclusively at the education sector and not at consumers.

What do you think of the LEGO Group's decision?

LEGO Mindstorms será descontinuado

Actions

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-10-28/1666971360-143522-51515-lifestyle-06.jpg]

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-10-28/1666971360-574139-51515-lifestyle-07.jpg]

A few days ago a member of the Brickrr team discovered a super interesting Kickstarter project called Gobrick. Bricks, magnets, baseplates, what could go wrong? It was clear, we had to do an article about it!

After researching it in depth, we found it to be a really original project, an idea that I personally had never imagined, but that certainly works really well as we can see in the video, these baseplates add an extra to your city that I'm sure you've never seen before, they literally bring your city to life!

Watch on YouTube

Besides the originality of Gobrick's products, if we have to highlight something it's their quality, obviously it's a Kickstarter project and we can't get our hands on it yet, but the design and quality certifications of the products are of the highest level, probably one of the highest quality non-official LEGO (i.e. LEGO compatible) projects we've ever seen.

More than 20 years of experience as engineers back up those designed for 3 years have made from sketches, to research and development processes to make Gobrick a reality, a really impressive goal and they don't stop there, they also advance us that they are looking to the future to make more brick toys, we can't wait to see all the interesting ideas that these guys have in mind.

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-10-19/1666203623-56308-gobrick-114950.jpg]

We encourage you to take a look at the Kickstarter of the project, where you can see in detail all the products and models of magnetic baseplates that Gobrick offers, which are not few, from multiple layouts and colours, to different accessories and mechanisms that will allow you to automate your layouts and take them to the next level.

We will keep an eye on this interesting project, if you are interested in Gobrick products, do not hesitate to contact the sales centre through the email [email protected], I assure you that they will kindly solve any of your doubts!

What do you think about this project, are you planning to support it on Kickstarter?, let us know in the comments!

Watch on YouTube

We start the week with the return of our IOTW (IDEA of The Week) section, which after a long time is finally back!

As many of you know, shortly after launching the first IOTW article, the project underwent some changes that unfortunately prevented us from continuing with the section, but now thanks to our recent relaunch as brickzip, we can tell you that the IOTW section is back and here to stay.

What better way to come back with this section than with the impressive project "The Architect's House" by @letsgolegobrick a guy who knows very well what it is to get 10k votes, in fact he is in the 10k club for a long time, as he has achieved it multiple times, a real talent!

This time @letsgolegobrick wanted to present us a construction of a house designed by an architect that doesn't lack a single detail.

As its creator tells us, the house is nestled in a coniferous forest in a rocky valley, offering comfort and modernity to its occupants in the heart of a peaceful natural environment.

A house that @letsgolegobrick defines as the one of his dreams, it has an architecture of modern lines and shapes, raw materials such as stone and wood, all in a quiet, green and fresh air environment, no doubt I think it is the dream of more than one 😉

Starting from the bottom up, in the basement we find a garage and a living room dedicated to leisure, on the first floor, we find a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room, an entrance hall, a bathroom with bathtub and a living room with two sofas and a corner for music lovers.

A very special feature that does not go unnoticed is that, as we can see in the pictures, in this house the living room is suspended over a natural waterfall.

Finally, on the first floor, you will find a bedroom with access to the main terrace and a corridor with views of the living room and access to an annex terrace.

Without a doubt, this house would be an incredible LEGO IDEAS set, not only because of its really neat aesthetics, which makes it an excellent display model, but also because of its great playability. A set that reminds us of the LEGO Architecture line for its aesthetics, but that takes it to the next level thanks to the fact that all the construction has been done in minifigure scale, something we have never seen in the LEGO Architecture line.

We'll be keeping an eye on @letsgolegobrick interesting project, if you're interested in helping this project reach 10,000 votes to get the LEGO IDEAS team's review, here's the link.

Minifigure Factory lets you create a $12 minifig of yourself

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-08-24/1661347310-855708-mff-in-large.png]

LEGO has finally released the beta version of the long-awaited new LEGO Minifigure Factory online, apparently only available for the US at the moment. This easy-to-use online tool allows you to configure your own minifigure in a variety of ways, including its face, head, torso, legs and accessories. You can try out the tool here. These custom minifigures cost $11.99. The factory is still in beta, so it may not be available when you click, as they are likely to run several test phases to gather feedback from users, it should be noted that there is also a limit of one minifigure per household at the moment.

The Minifigure Factory while still missing some extra options to make it more interesting, offers quite a bit of customisation, so it won't be too difficult to achieve the LEGO minifigure you want, being able to choose the face and haircut or hat for your figure. There aren't an overwhelming number of options, making it fairly easy to see all the possibilities that might appeal to you. The leg and accessory options are also fairly straightforward.

Where you have the most creative options is on the torso of the minifigure. You can select the type of shirt or suit you want for your minifigure. You can enter text in a variety of fonts and colours, and decorate it with images from a range of categories such as sports, animals, accessories and more.

The resulting minifigures look exactly like the ones that come in LEGO sets. The company has already hinted that it will be adding more customisation options in the future, as expected, and also says it welcomes suggestions from fans - do you dare to configure and order your own LEGO minifigure, click here!

ATARI 2600 set revealed!

Actions

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-07-20/1658358544-227752-10306-lifestyle-12.jpg]

Today, the LEGO Group reveals the new LEGO® Atari® 2600 set, a nostalgic recreation of one of the most famous video game consoles of all time. The iconic Atari VCS/2600 was an instant hit when introduced in 1977 and the new LEGO set is based on the four-switch revision which debuted in 1980. The release of the new LEGO set also comes in celebration of Atari’s 50th anniversary.

From the unboxing experience through to adding the final brick, building this intricate set is an evocative journey within itself. Activate challenge mode as you build your own console in brick form and take a nostalgic journey uncovering features such as the controller with a joystick that moves to feel just like the original. Brick builders and gamers alike will enjoy sliding open the front and unveiling a pop-up scene from an 80’s gaming room, reviving memories of hours spent trying to get a new high score.

The set also includes three video game cartridges of iconic Atari games in brick format: Asteroids™, Adventure and Centipede™. The cartridges can be stored in a case and built into mini versions of the games. In addition, the console includes a switch to select whether you have a colour or black and white television.

When it came to choosing a LEGO Designer for the set, there was only one person for the job. Lifelong Atari fan Chris McVeigh, who said about the design; “The Atari 2600 was one of the most memorable gifts I got as a kid. I recall spending hours and hours in front of the TV, absolutely amazed that I could play arcade games in my own home. There were so many legendary titles, too, including Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede. This is why it has been such an incredible experience to bring two icons together, Atari and LEGO, in this awesome set. We hope that building this classic console takes you back to those halcyon days when a handful of pixels meant a world of adventure.”

The LEGO Atari 2600 set is available from the 1st August 2022 via LEGO Stores and https://www.LEGO.com/Atari at the recommended retail price of $/€239.99.

LEGO Ideas The Office officially revealed!

Actions

[upl-image-preview url=https://cdn.brickzip.com/uploads/2022-07-18/1658167045-913360-21336-lifestyle-07.jpg]

About the set:

Relive hilarious and heartwarming scenes from the Emmy® Award-winning U.S. version of The Office – streaming now exclusively on Peacock – with this new, fantastic LEGO® Ideas display model. Build a LEGO brick section of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s branch office in Scranton, including ‘World’s Best Boss’ Michael Scott’s office. Add 15 minifigures of the show’s main characters, plus countless accessories to remind you of laugh-out-loud moments.

About the designers:

About LEGO® IDEAS submission designer, Jaijaj Lewis:
•Jaijai Lewis, a marketing professional from New York City, has worked on various versions of the model since 2014.
•Before this set, he submitted two other iterations, with both reaching the 10,000 LEGO Ideas supporters required to be considered for production.
•His last model is mainly based on the first seven seasons with Michael Scott as the “World’s Best Boss” before the character left Dunder Mifflin:
“For me, it’s a show I go to for comfort. It’s hilarious, relatable and heartwarming. I’ve heard from thousands of supporters over the years that during moments of hardship, they will watch it to lift their spirits. Overall, I worked on this project for nearly seven years. I used behind-the scenes photos, set blueprints and re-watched the show as references for my designs. It was a lot of fun to recreate classic moments from the show over the years. Even after I hit 10,000 votes, I continued adding new features to improve the model. One of my biggest changes was rescaling it to make the set smaller while keeping so many characters. I’m so grateful to the fans who came out to promote and vote for my latest designs, it really means a lot to me.”

LEGO Ideas Designers (and husband and wife duo) Laura and Chris Perron worked on the set as the LEGO Group’s own Jim and Pam.
•“Jaijai did a great job refining the scope and scale of the model, and we created the final layout and structure to capture as many iconic angles as possible, with room for 15 minifigures (and a cat). It was special being able to co-design this set with my wife, Laura; we felt we could play up the Jim and Pam dynamic. (Air high-five!) We didn’t want to hold back on references, so there are extra stickers and accessories to recreate your favorite moments.” -Chris Perron, LEGO Model Designer
•This project let me combine three things I love: my husband (Chris), The Office and LEGO bricks! We’re huge fans of the show and worked out a lot of the references and jokes in the model over dinner conversations at home. I’m really happy with how the reception desk turned out – its curve is very iconic, and we wanted to get it just right!”-Laura Perron LEGO Model Designer

Where to purchase:

The Office set will be exclusively available on Walmart.com in the U.S. (LEGO.com internationally) and is available for preorder starting July 15 and on-sale October 1.
