I think the biggest problem is the thickness, I'm not saying that baseplates are not necessary but the thickness problem is a bit annoying especially for combining buildings/sidewalks... and so on
Yeah it's awesome, brickmill is probably the best LEGO Pokemon builder, I've seen that a lot of people liked this post, so I'll upload some more of his creations.
