As the title says I wonder if LEGO baseplates are going to be retired soon, I feel that they are in disuse and seeing that they continue to promote new road systems do you think we are facing the end of the baseplates?
I'm not really informed, but I don't think so at least I hope not, it's certainly true that they seem to be disappearing from sets where they were previously used, but I think that for free construction they are still super useful to remove them just like that.
There is no official announcement, in theory they are not going anywhere, I think their disappearance from sets is more of a cost saving thing than an indication that they are going away.
In the case of the road baseplates, it's possible that they will be phased out or even discontinued due to the new LEGO City road system, time will tell!
How the hell are you going to make a large lego city without baseplates? I think it's a basic element, it would be a bad joke if they remove them....
I think the biggest problem is the thickness, I'm not saying that baseplates are not necessary but the thickness problem is a bit annoying especially for combining buildings/sidewalks... and so on

I think the same, the thickness is an annoying issue with modular buildings.

Yes, that disadvantage is what at the same time makes the baseplates much cheaper, they use less material compared to the new lego city roads. I don't have the data but they probably use almost twice as much or more material...

Think so?
I thnk not
I personally like the new lego city road system, even though it's more expensive, it feels more authentic, more lego-ified!

Smaller parts may not be removed. Because they are used everywhere. As for floors, they can continue to be sold in creator or classic sets.
